Saint Francis DFL Picnic: September 10th:
The St Francis DFL CU17 is planning a summer picnic on September 10th from
noon until 3 PM in the Woodbury Park Gazebo, across from the Rum River Inn in St
Francis.
At this time we are
still in the planning phase and are working to get candidates and celebrity DFLers.
Please contact
St Francis
CU17 Chair Raymond Steinke for more information.
Rick Olseen:
My name is Rick Olseen and I am seeking your endorsement for the Senate
District 17 seat currently held by Sean Nienow. I am running because I feel so
strongly that it is no longer acceptable to put pledges to extreme special
interest groups, partisan politics, and divisive issues ahead of the economic
well-being of our state, the education of our kids, and the health of our
citizens.
As Chisago County Commissioner representing District Two, I deal with issues
affecting people’s lives such as plowing the roads, overseeing the jail,
planning and zoning issues in the Townships, Health and Human services and other County Government services. As a member of the Highway and Ditches
committee, I have worked hard on local road improvement projects for the area,
but have received little to no assistance from our current Senator. As a North
Branch School Board member for ten years, I understand the difficult challenges
facing our schools, including the Federal “No Child Left Behind” Act, the
Minnesota Graduation Standards, and Basic Skills Testing. I understand that
Minnesota’s competitive advantage depends on an educated workforce. Yet funding
for public education is a decreasing priority in Saint Paul.
I am running to make our area a better
place to live. You and your families deserve it.

Here's what a CNN Headline News anchor asked a Washington journalist
on Friday during an interview about the British terror arrests:
"How does this factor into the Lieberman-Lamont contest in
Connecticut? Might some argue, as some have, that Lamont is the al
Qaeda candidate?"
You would expect this kind of disgusting and inappropriate
suggestion from someone more like Dick Cheney. In fact, it was Dick
Cheney who said last week that electing people who question the
Republican war in Iraq encourages "the al Qaeda types".
The anchor later apologized to Lamont for misquoting Cheney --
but then went on to question Lamont about the same ridiculous
accusation. He's not alone -- commentators and journalists have
mindlessly repeated Cheney's remarks over and over again, reporting
on it or inquiring about it over the past week as if it's a real
question for debate.
Journalists have a responsibility to do more than regurgitate the
most desperate and most extreme talking points. When journalists
allow these defamatory and un-American suggestions to infect their
coverage of the news, we have to act swiftly to call on them to stop
it.
Democrats offer a new direction. We'll do a better job of
fighting the war on terror by taking the target off the backs of
American troops in Iraq; we'll get serious about capturing or
killing Osama bin Laden; and we'll be ready for threats to our
safety and security here at home, whether it's terrorism or
hurricanes. We'll sit down with journalists and answer the tough
questions about our nation's security any time -- but there's no
excuse for resorting to repeating desperate Republican talking
points.
Write to your local newspaper and let them know where Democrats
stand, and that we're not going to allow our party and our
candidates to be smeared.

The American people have woken up.
Everywhere people are saying, "Enough is enough" -- rejecting the
extremist ideology and total incompetence of the Bush
administration, and rejecting their desperate, scorched-earth
political tactics.
Democrats are energized and ready for change. We want this
administration to get serious about protecting America, our troops
and our citizens.
It's deeply irresponsible for journalists to repeat these
ridiculous smears. Democrats are going to do a better job at keeping
America safe, and you can tell them so in your own letter:

Thank you,
Tom

Kiffmeyer’s Bad Week
Mary Kiffmeyer
was sued twice last week. The first suit is from an Independence Party
candidate for State House who is suing Kiffmeyer because a mistake she
made may keep him off the ballot this fall. The second suit says that
she improperly accepted Congressman Gil Gutknecht’s petition, which
should have been ruled invalid. This second mistake may cause Gutknecht
to be kicked of the ballot.
Here’s the latest:
“Legislative candidate blames secretary of state for ballot mistake”
from
Minnesota Public Radio
“Gutknecht’s filing practice challenged” from the
Mankato Free Press
Help Us Have a Strong Showing
We have to file
our next Campaign Finance Report with the State of Minnesota on August
21st. It is essential that we have a strong showing on this report to
show that Minnesotans stand behind Mark Ritchie for Secretary of State.
We need YOUR help to reach our
goal of raising an additional $15,000 this week!
To donate, just
go to
www.markritchie06.net and click on “Contribute”. Now is the time!
Your contribution of $50, $100, or $250 will help us clean up
Minnesota’s elections and restore nonpartisanship to the Secretary of
State’s office.
All Minnesotans
should remember that the State of Minnesota will refund your first
contribution of up to $50, so you can donate $50 to us for free!
Join Us for the Great Minnesota Get Together
The Minnesota
State Fair is coming next week with lots of mini donuts, pork chops on a
stick, and too much ice cream for Mark. It is also our best chance to
see huge crowds of people and tell them about Mark, give out literature,
and register people to vote.
We’ll be staffing
the fair every day doing those things and more, and we need your help!
If you can join us please let us know at
mbreitenstein@dfl.org or call 612-414-6899.

Hello from Klobuchar campaign headquarters. We write
to you today to ask your help in shining
some light on the real Mark Kennedy.
Congressman Kennedy's been running campaign ads for
weeks now and we've seen a whole "new" side of him.
Unlike his campaign ads in the past, his good buddy
George Bush is nowhere to be seen and he even forgot
to mention he's a Republican. I will say this much:
it takes a lot of guts to look into a camera and
tell people you're bipartisan and independent when
you've voted with your President and political party
no less than 92% of the time.
Don't let Kennedy run from his
near-perfect record of support for George Bush and
the Republican leadership's failed policies. Donate
to Amy Klobuchar's campaign today, and help her set
the record straight.
http://amyklobuchar.com/contribute
Seems Mark Kennedy's decided that the winds are
blowing the wrong way and now he's got to convince
us that he's something he's not. Trouble is, it's
hard to hide from your record when you've voted with
the president 92% of the time, including
giving billions away to Big Oil while Minnesotans
were being socked by high gas prices at the pump.
Now, you and I know Mark Kennedy's sudden
election-year conversion to bipartisanship is a
political ruse, and a pretty transparent one to
boot. But most people in Minnesota don't know Mark
Kennedy. For many of them, those highly misleading
ads are the very first thing they'll hear about him.
With enough money behind them, these distortions
could very well muddy the waters.
Contribute to Amy Klobuchar's campaign
before the August 23rd primary deadline. Each dollar
you donate will help us reach our $25,000 goal...and
help us tell the real story about Mark Kennedy's
record!
http://amyklobuchar.com/contribute
I think Minnesotans deserve a Senator who does
what's right, no matter how hard -- not someone who
unquestioningly toes the line and then changes their
tune when election time comes around. That's why we
need Amy Klobuchar.
Amy Klobuchar will fight for middle-class
families, work to balance the budget and stop the
runaway spending of the Bush administration. And
she'll stand up against Big Oil and its continued
gouging of consumers at the pump.
We've had enough of a Congress that rubberstamps
everything George Bush wants to do. That's why we
need your help. Please donate to Amy's
campaign today, and give Minnesota the
strong leadership it deserves.
http://amyklobuchar.com/contribute
Sincerely,
Ben Goldfarb
P.S. After
contributing and helping us shine a light on the
real Mark Kennedy, please forward this message
to everyone you know. Invite your friends
to join our campaign to bring Minnesota values and
change to Washington. |
